Princess J

I can't believe my baby is three already!!  I have to say that I much prefer this age over the baby stage.  Now Julianne is able to communicate and play by herself somewhat and I can have some peace and quiet sometimes!!  Don't get me wrong - there are days that I think to myself "what did I do to deserve this!!!" but for the most part I like the 3 year old stage.

Here's a little bit about Julianne Nicole, the three-year-old:
The first thing you might notice about her (other than her undeniable cuteness!) is that she's kinda shy around people she doesn't know.  But give her a few minutes and she warms up pretty quickly.  Then you'll notice the next thing about her - she rarely stops moving!!!  She's always on the go - unless you have the TV on - then she pretty much tunes the entire rest of the world out.  She's not quite the "independent" person yet; she prefers to have someone play with her and usually isn't far from the grown-ups.  And she is funny!!!  Sometimes Nick and I just look at each other and can't do anything but laugh!  I may be a little biased, but I happen to think she's pretty darn smart too. :-)

Likes:  First things first - she LOVES chapstick and lip gloss.  Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, huh mom??  Apparently I loved chapstick as a toddler too and would hide behind the couch and "eat" it.  Jules doesn't do that but she does constantly put it on her lips... and her clothes, and the house window, and the car windows...  Daddy has taken several tubes of chapstick away already...  As much as I don't like to say it, she also loves her TV.  Her favorites are still Dora and Mickey Mouse.  She also loves to tease - especially with Papa Steve - he's the best teaser around!  School buses are ORANGE not YELLOW, right Papa???  She not a big eater, but will rarely never turn down treats, milk, juice or popcorn.  She still likes her books and has turned out to be a pretty good at coloring.  I'm so impressed at how she can stay in the lines - those fine motor skills are working well!!  She likes riding the tractor with Daddy, having her back scratched, playing dress up and singing with her microphone, "helping" Daddy feed cows, playing in the sand pile and building "dolly towers" with her blocks.

Dislikes:  She's not a big eater or a big sleeper - I'm really surprised I don't have gray hair already from trying to figure out a way to get her to eat her supper and go to bed before 9:30 at night!!!  But I guess I just need to listen to my doctor and my mom - she seems to be doing just fine so apparently she is getting enough food and doesn't need that much sleep (she must get this from her dad because this mamma needs her sleep - I could sleep 10 hours a night if I could!).  She goes to bed okay, but doesn't fall asleep right away.  We often have to go back into her room and tell her to get back into bed - one night we found her riding her rocking horse and another night she was playing with her toy tractor and semi truck on the floor!  She doesn't come out of her room, but she's definitely out of bed a lot!!  You never know what you'll find in bed with her in the morning; we've found books, dolls, every stuffed animal in her room, chapstick, her earrings, a jewelry box and once a jar of Vaseline!  She's got a very independent mind and is hard to convince to do something if she doesn't want to do it - in other words, she's SASSY!

Things we're working on:  Not swallowing the toothpaste when brushing teeth, our ABC's, going potty by herself (especially at 3 am!!!) and learning to ride her new bike!

So, there you have it - a very healthy, typical three year old girl!!  If you'd ask my mom, she'd say Julianne is a girly-girl, but Nick's mom would probably she she has some tom-boy in her - I says she's got a good mix of both!  She is the sweetest thing on the planet and her laugh and giggle can still melt my heart in a minute!!  One thing I didn't expect from parenthood - that feeling of pride you get when she does something well - like my heart could just explode out of my chest!  She's still a mommy's girl, but is now a Daddy's girl too.  Daddy says she gives the best hugs around and his favorite time is when she cuddles up on the couch with him and they eat popcorn together.  I have a feeling his heart is just about exploding at that point too!

Okay seriously... looking at this picture is one of those moments where my heart is exploding - can she get any cuter?!?!?!  How can you not love that adorable face!

Happy 3rd Birthday Jules - We love you!!
